You Loving It?

Love The World Cup? I bet that at least a few of you (yes I am being optimistic about the number of people reading this here post…) do. This post is all about just that, so take a look – if you’re interested in football or not it’s a good read.
As is pointed out, regardless of how great The World Cup is, it’s one hell of an evil energy waste, isn’t it? Firstly you have the many thousands of people flying around for what some would say is not an essential reason, and then you have all the electricity wasted on broadcasting (just look at the number of channels showing similar footage!). Whatever way you look at it, can it really be justified?
Of course, there are a few ways that the next World Cup might be able to redeem itself. For example, what if the companies who specialize in energy saving were able to get their advertisements on to the signs around the pitch? Surely that would have a substantial impact, and through that impact more people would become aware of the difficulties we are facing that aren’t always so obvious.
Another good way the signs could be utilized would be by displaying facts about energy wastage and global warming, maybe even helpful tips about how to save money in the home? It may be some way off, but as we slide ever deeper in to eco-debt, it’s a matter of time until it happens, if you ask me.
