How to hibernate your bike

The winter this season has been highly unpredictable. Places that have been experiencing very little snow in the past whole decade have been bombarded by snow, something that motorcycle riders are certainly not enjoying, especially those who were hoping to ride in the winter as well. Putting your bike to hibernate would be the right thing to do as per me. There are a few steps that you need to follow before you put your bikes to hibernate. The first and the foremost is to clean your bike nicely, as leaving any kind of road salt or dirt can lead to corrosion. Many people might recommend a jet wash but this might leave water into the engine, and you will only realise the damage later. Once you have cleaned you bike and made sure you have wiped off every bit of moisture from it, you can apply some polish on to it, to avoid any damage. Drain the oil tank of any fuel as the fuel can create oxidisation.

Most bikers forget to clean the chain. You can use chain cleaner for this. There are some who may like to clean it with paraffin. Immediately after cleaning the chain do not forgot to lubricate it with any oil based lubricant. Make sure you give an overall coating of water dispersant to your bike. Avoid applying the water dispersant to the brakes and clutch as it can be fatal when you return to road. You can use a metal part cleaner instead. When it comes to the tyre, it is certainly good to take them off your bike as the tyres might get spoiled due to the weight of the bike and also due to the constant position. When you keep the tyre apart make sure you reduce the air pressure, this will elongate the life of your tyres. And finally disconnect the battery. All this steps might not take more than a day and would certainly not cost you a fortune, but if they are not carefully followed it might cost you a lot later.
