The K1300R

June 15th, 2011

Though quite similar to the previous model, the latest version from BMW of its bike named the K1300R is an indeed fresh and new look item, given the small changes that the company has affected on the outgoing model. The claimed power of this bike is 173 bhp which is quite a lot and that too with the optional electronically adjustable suspension, traction control and a long list of options to choose from makes this one a desiring item. The old bike had a confusing set of triple switches for working the indicators, which has been resolved in this new version with a new K-series indication system being incorporated.

The single aspect of major upgrading that has taken place when compared to the old version of this bike is its engine. The company named Ricardo, well known for their wizardry on engines, has done the job on the new engine for this bike. The engine now is of 1293 cc four cylinder with power output of 173 bhp which will run happily on your diesel Middlesbrough. The ultimate product therefore is one of the fastest machines that ride the road today. The bike is also wider and has taller handlebars than its previous model. This provides for better leverage of the heavier vehicle. There is also the aspect of aluminium being used instead of steel for the front suspension. This has led to a reduction of 1 kg by weight.

The bike comes at a cost of £9500 for the stock model without ABS which places it not in the cheap bikes class. There is also the need for the essential add-ons like the ABS and ESA II which poke the price up to £10,675. Further add-ons are available at extra cost but they are not the essentials as the ABS and ESA II. However, whatever are the add-ons, each comes at price that is not cheap and rather of premium value.
