The SV1000 from Suzuki

June 29th, 2011

A big capacity, sensibly priced, road going sporty V-twin machine is how the Suzuki SV1000 could be summed up as. The engine even though has been picked up from the old TL1000S model by the same company, yet is a good fit given the reasonable price that the bike comes for. The big V-Twin produced more than 120 bhp of power when it was first installed on the TLS1000S. With handling issues cropping up, the engine was lowered for power output to just over 100 bhp and then fitted on the SV1000. Suzuki though claims the power rating to be 118 bhp in reality it is just close to 106 bhp. There is however the issue of a modified exhaust system and power command that would help release more power if required.

The bike is made up of aluminium frame and has conventional suspension system. One must not compare the suspension with that of a sports bike, but on its own it is fairly passable. The brake system also works fine only with fresh fluid. The seat of the bike is not very comfortable for long distance driving as is the case with the pillion seat also. There is however the features of better headlights. The rest of the fitting like the steering damper, under seat storage space and all are just reasonable.

There have been reports of poor finish and corrosion setting in early. However, these issues need the owner to mend the bike a bit more carefully than in other cases. The price of this bike comes at £5000 for the faired Suzuki SV1000 and is a bit less for the unfaired version of the bike. This price is one major factor that needs to be weighed while selecting this bike over others. The emission level is also more when compared to low emission cars. There is also the issue of running cost and insurance cost also.
