Naked Barcelona

When I read about the man who motorcycled naked on the Isle of Man’s TT course on the BBC website, I nearly fell off my own bike laughing. Trust me when I say, motorcycling naked is never a good idea and for a guy, it can be extremely hazardous! That said I have to admire the man’s gall to actually go and do something like that. I’m considering doing it myself to beat the heat as I move through Spain.

I love my trip around Europe but wearing full biking leathers in heat that gets close to 40 degrees Celsius is not the most comforting thing in the world. Stripping down to nothing has been highly tempting and reading that article about the naked motorcyclist has made me stop to think several times the past few days. Maybe if I just went down to my boxer shorts? Anyway at least my internet connection has remained stable since I switched providers. If it weren’t for me checking worldwide roaming fees compared to just browsing on YouTube which I usually do when bored, then I wouldn’t be sitting here writing this post.

I recently drove through Barcelona on my way down the Costa Brava in the east of Spain. The city was beautiful, although it still has one of the worst reputations in Europe for petty crime - particularly pick pocketing. I suppose I shouldn’t complain. Pick-pocketing is better then mugging as at least there is no intention of physically harming the victim. Still, I’ve been keeping a close eye on my valuables and as I’m wearing leathers most of the day, I do make for quite an imposing sight. Hopefully it’s off-putting to anyone thinking of making a grab for my wallet. I digress.

The city of Barcelona has to be one of the most beautiful I have seen. The buildings all illustrate the passion of Catalonia and before long I got caught up just puttering along marvelling at the architecture. Eventually I caught sight of several street performers and I think one of them conned me out of 20 Euros when I paid to see him perform a magic trick. Maybe that’s the Barcelona way of mugging people? If it is, then I don’t really mind too much.

There was so much to see and do in the city that I ended up spending four days just roaming the streets. Walking is the best way to see the city and if you want to visit the Old Town and the Gothic quarter then you have to ditch your vehicle. I wound up at the Camp Nou at the end of my second day home to the legendary F.C. Barcelona! I didn’t run into Messi, Xavi or Iniesta, but the stadium was amazing!

Sadly I had to leave Barcelona a few days ago and push forward on my journey. Until next time faithful followers!
