London is an ancient European city and has scores of attractions, both historical and contemporary. It is a city that is fascinating to those who live there as much as for the tourists who come on visits. If you are a traveller and would like to understand some of the charms this city holds or you reside in this city and would simply like to read another pleasing perspective about it, then this is for you.

One of the first things that hits you in this city is its cultural diversity. In 43 AD the Romans invaded Britain and established the first major settlement here. Later this site went into disuse but another Anglo-Saxon settlement called Lundenwic sprouted at where Covent Garden is located today. Pretty soon London, as it is called today became the largest and most rapidly developing English city. A striking fact about London that not many of us think about is - the city has seen many a rampage from revolts and plagues to huge fires and still managed to grow non-stop.

The 18th and 19th centuries saw London blossoming into the home of the Industrial Revolution. It is estimated that around 13 million people populate London and a whooping double that number turn up as visitors to soak in the dazzling historical and cultural gems flaunted by the British capital, among other things.

London is a well known shopper’s heaven and you get almost anything you can think of here from fashion to antiques to even games like Mah Jong sets. This city houses some of the most amazing and unique sights in the world. With more than two hundred galleries and museums, the English capital is a paradise for art lovers. The abundant green and ancient parks here provide all the respite you could want amidst the busy life of the city.
